When I was a little girl I watched a movie entitled “The Incredible Journey.” It was the story of a Labrador retriever, a bull terrier, and a Siamese cat who made their way across two hundred miles of Canadian wilderness to reach home. Dear friends, life can be a wilderness or a beautiful meadow. Either way, it is the Word of God that will make the journey an adventure. I like to call it the “great adventure of knowing God.” This year we are going to journey through the Word of God, one day at a time. Will you ask God to speak to your heart as you take this journey? Ask Him to give you a “word” and a “verse” for the year. I do this every year. This last year my word was “hope” and my verses were Lamentations 3:21-23. I am now asking the Lord to give me a new word and verse. I’ll let you know what it is. Also, ask God to help you set aside the time each day to read His Word. Imagine, only 15-20 minutes or so each day, and you can make it through the entire Bible. You may take longer as you think about what you are reading. I encourage you to set aside a time and a place where you will spend this intimate time with the Lord in His Word. And I also encourage you to get a notebook or a journal to write down your favorite verse or verses each day along with any insights you may have. Then, be sure to visit this website once a week to read our commentary (by Jim Smoke and me). You can add your comments to what we share. And then, dear friend, let me be the first to say as we near the end of 2005 and approach the new year, God bless you in this great adventure of knowing Him in 2006!
